Information Minister, Ziad Makary, on Friday signed with French Ambassador to Lebanon, Anne Grillo, Representative of the French National Audiovisual Institute (INA) Olivier Porcherot, and Tele Liban Director Viviane Lebbos, a cooperation agreement to preserve and digitize the archives of Tele Liban (TL), Radio Lebanon (Radio Liban), Lebanese Studies and Publications Department, and the National News Agency (NNA).
The signature ceremony took place in the presence of Head of the National Audio-Visual Council, Abdel Hadi Mahfouz, Information Ministry’s Director Dr. Hassan Falha, National News Agency Director Ziad Harfouche, Radio Lebanon Director Mohammad Gharib, Director of Studies Department Khodor Majed, Minister Makary’s Adviser Lawyer Boutros Frangieh, Minister Makary’s Francophone Affairs Advisor Elissar Naddaf, Head of TL Archives Department Othman Majzoub, and Radio Lebanon’s Programs’ Director, Rita Noujaim.
The Minister of Information welcomed the launch of the Lebanese public media archives’ digitization project, thanking the French Foreign Ministry, the French Embassy in Lebanon and the National Audio-Visual Institute in France for their unlimited support for this project, which “preserves Lebanon’s collective memory and contributes to benefiting from this cultural legacy.”
The French Ambassador, for her part, deemed this project as a glimpse of hope in light of the stifling crisis that is afflicting the country, highlighting the “importance of the content of the public media archive in Lebanon.”
