Lebanese Ministry of Information
Minister of Information, Attorney Paul Morcos, on Monday received the Secretary General of the Union of Arab Banks, Dr. Wissam Fattouh, in his office at the ministry.
Following the meeting, Fattouh said : “I was honored to meet with His Excellency the Minister today and to invite him to attend the Union of Arab Banks’ conference, titled the ‘Arab Regional Conference on Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing,’ which will be held on 11 August under the patronage of the Prime Minister.”
Fattouh added: “More importantly, we were honored to request his patronage of the conference that the Union of Arab Banks plans to hold in Beirut on economic journalism. This will be the first conference of its kind, titled the ‘Arab Conference on Economic Journalism,’ bringing together more than 100 Arab journalists who will be invited to Beirut to discuss this topic.”
He continued: “The conference will include a training component for participating journalists focused specifically on economic journalism, given its direct impact on the Lebanese and Arab banking and financial sectors. The Union of Arab Banks has chosen Beirut to host the conference next October, and I hope it will mark a positive step forward for economic journalism. We believe that close cooperation is essential between the economic and banking sectors, on the one hand, and the economic media, on the other.”
Regarding cooperation between the Union, the Ministry of Information and the National News Agency (NNA), Fattouh revealed that “during the conference, the Union will announce support—albeit on a pilot basis—for the National News Agency and the Ministry of Information by providing them with modern technologies associated with organizing the conference. This will constitute a positive step toward equipping the NNA and Tele Liban.”
He noted that this initiative comes in line with the recommendation of Minister Morcos and as part of his continued support for efforts to strengthen the National News Agency, the Ministry’s various departments, and the national broadcaster, Tele Liban.
On the other hand, Minister Morcos received French Ambassador to Lebanon, Hervé Magro, who came on a farewell visit upon the near end of his diplomatic mission in the country.
Among Minister Morcos’ visitors for today had been a delegation from “Maharat” Foundation.
