President Michel Aoun plans to meet with Thursday with Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk, a source at the Baabda Palace told The Daily Star.
“There is an appointment for Machnouk to meet with Aoun at noon,” the source said. Nevertheless, the source said it wasn’t clear what the two officials will discuss.
In a report published Thursday by local daily Al-Liwaa, sources said Aoun’s meeting with Machnouk will focus on the magnetic voting card, which reportedly was a key component of the new Parliamentary vote, prompting politicians to extend Parliament’s term for 11 months.
The magnetic voter cards were introduced as part of the new electoral law to allow Lebanese to cast votes from any location.
The daily added that that Aoun might also meet Thursday with Prime Minister Saad Hariri. It said that discussions will most likely focus on setting up the agenda for the next Cabinet meeting.
The source at the Baabda Palace couldn’t confirm to The Daily Star if such meeting will take place today.
Due to the absence of some ministers because of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, the Cabinet didn’t hold its regular meeting Wednesday. An official source had told The Daily Star that the meeting is instead slated for July 5 to follow up on the government’s electricity reform plan.
