Trump Launches his Official US Presidential Re-election Campaign

US president Donald Trump officially launched his 2020 re-election campaign on Tuesday in front of a huge crowd in Orlando, Florida.

Trump said, “We did it once and we are going to do it again”, promising his supporters of an “earthquake at the ballot box”, and confirming that he will “never let them down”.

“Our economy is the envy of the word,” added the US leader who has been in office now for 2 ½ years.

Counting on the strong job growth to persuade the country to give him a second term, Trump told the crowd, “We are going to keep America great again. Oh we will keep it so great. Better than ever before. And that is why tonight I stand before you to officially launch my campaign for a second term as president of the United States.”

The Republican president then accused his opponents, the Democrats of trying to “destroy the country”, and he made clear that “this is not going to happen”.

Trump warned Americans from voting for Democrats in 2020 saying that, “A vote for any Democrat in 2020 is a vote for the rise of radical socialism and the destruction of the American dream”.

Even though it is far from being certain whether Trump is going to win the race or not, he is betting on strong economic elements. The American economy is doing well, GDP growth – seen as one of the best indicators of an economy’s health – is high and unemployment is at its lowest rate for half a century. The campaign strategists will be most probably focusing on economic growth as a personal achievement of the Republican president, in order to convince Americans in giving him a second term.

Newt Gingrich, a former Republican speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives said, “If the economy stays strong, he is very likely to get re-elected”.

Trump didn’t forget to stress again on the illegal immigration as a major crisis, and brought up the border wall, claiming “400 miles of it will be built by the end of next year”.

Trump promised that his Democratic challengers would radically change the United States and announced his intention to legalize migrants coming across the southern border so they could vote and boost the Democratic political base.
