Lebanon now has 8 coronavirus-related deaths, the Ministry of Public Health confirmed on March 28th.
This was announced in the daily coronavirus report released by the Health Ministry on Saturday, in which 1 new coronavirus death was confirmed.
The ministry said the deceased was suffering from chronic diseases before his death at Rafik Hariri University Hospital. It also revealed that he was in the 8th decade of his life when he passed away.
In accordance with the latest confirmed data shared by the Health Ministry, the mortality rate for the disease in Lebanon is now approximately 1.94%, while that of recovery is about 6.55%.
As of Saturday, the number of critical coronavirus cases remains 3 (8%), according to the Ministry of Public Health.
74% of the remaining 377 active cases are considered mild/moderate, while the rest (17%) are asymptomatic, meaning they do carry the disease but show no symptoms of it.
With the coronavirus spreading rapidly and dangerously in some countries, Lebanese people trapped in them have been calling on their homeland’s government to provide them with means to get back to Lebanon.
In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has promised to bring the stranded citizens back home safely. Moreover, the ministry promised to provide financial support for Lebanese students in Italy, where they have been living on as low as $6/week.
The most recent coronavirus death before this one was confirmed by the Health Ministry yesterday, March 27th, when it announced 23 new coronavirus cases in its daily report.
Today, the ministry confirmed 21 new cases of the coronavirus, bringing the total of cases in Lebanon to 412 as of March 28th.
