Information Minister Paul Morcos described President Joseph Aoun’s meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington as “historic”, saying it marked formal US recognition of Lebanon’s sovereign decision-making and support for the Lebanese Army’s deployment alongside Israeli withdrawals from agreed areas.
Morcos said the talks also signalled US backing for reforms, investment and a possible resumption of direct flights to Beirut. He reiterated Lebanon’s demand for a full Israeli withdrawal and said political debate over the visit should remain free of hate speech while respecting democratic principles.
