Lebanese Ministry of Information
The Ministry of Public Health announced that the total of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Lebanon rose to 463 on March 31st. It confirmed the new cases in its daily coronavirus report released on the same date.
The report said: “Until 31/03/2020, the total of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases at Rafik Hariri University Hospital, accredited university hospital laboratories, as well as private laboratories has reached 463 after 17 cases were recorded since yesterday.”
The report also announced 1 new coronavirus-related death, who was a patient in his 40s.
After this new death, the total of coronavirus-related fatalities has become 12 on Tuesday. Conversely, the recoveries have risen to 35. As a result, the total of active cases is now 416, 7 of which are considered in critical condition.
The latest data shared by the Health Ministry shows that, since the first coronavirus case was announced in Lebanon on February 21st, 6,547 coronavirus tests have been conducted in the country.
As of Tuesday, 1,101 people are in quarantine in the Lebanese hospitals accredited by the Ministry of Public Health.
In the report, the ministry continues to stress the importance of committing to the government’s general mobilization guidelines and self-isolation.
The Health Ministry insists that all citizens must adhere to the “implementation of all preventive measures, especially the commitment to complete domestic isolation.”
Moreover, it reminds that self-isolation has become an “individual and societal moral responsibility that is incumbent on every citizen,” and warns that negligence in the application of these measures “will expose the violator to legal and criminal prosecution.”
Yesterday, March 30th, the Health Ministry’s coronavirus report revealed that hospitals and laboratories across Lebanon had recorded 8 new cases.
This number was significantly lower than what was being reported in the preceding days.
Later during the day, the ministry said that the 8 cases were confirmed out of “205 examinations conducted by four laboratories accredited by the Ministry of Public Health, and the results of the rest were negative.”
Considering that, as the ministry said, “other laboratories did not send the results of their examinations, due to their closure on Sunday,” it’s probable that this was the reason behind the number of new cases being low on Monday.
