Abdel Samad On World Day For Audiovisual Heritage: To Preserve Nation’s Archives And Legacy

Caretaker Minister of Information, Manal Abdel Samad, on Tuesday extolled Lebanon’s public media as “a wealth,” highlighting the necessity to preserve such a legacy.

Interviewed by Télé Liban upon the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, Abdel Samad indicated that the state-run television was founded in 1959 when other countries did not have any public TV.

“We were pioneers in that field,” she stressed.

She continued: “Also in Radio Lebanon, founded in 1938, we have an imminent heritage, besides a huge collection of rare interviewed, programs, and radio series, which are necessary to preserve.”

Moreover, Abdel Samad emphasized on the importance of cooperation and collaboration between public and private media.

“In order to preserve our nation’s dignity, we must start with the preservation of its archives and legacy,” she said.

“We must all cooperate and respect intellectual property laws and regulations which applies to our archive,” she added.

“We have a wealth but we do not realize its value. We must all focus on this matter. Despite the dark time we are through, I consider this to be a glimpse of hope,” she said in reference to the public media archives.
