President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, on Friday met Information Minister, George Kordahi, and received a letter of resignation from the government.
Minister Kordahi explained the reasons that prompted him to take his step.
For his side, President Aoun thanked Minister Kordahi for his initiative, reiterating Lebanon’s keenness to establish the best relations with the brotherly Arab countries in general, and the Gulf countries in particular, hoping that this resignation would put an end to the imbalance in Lebanese-Gulf relations.
The following is the text of Minister Kordahi’s resignation letter:
“Your Excellency, President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun
Since the interest of the country is greater than the interest of the people.
And since protecting my people is more important than any other consideration.
Because injustice to an individual is better than injustice to a people.
And because self-sacrifice for the sake of the common good remains the most noble of sacrifices.
And since I don’t want to be a bridge to take revenge on my country and my family…
For all these considerations and others which I keep to myself,
I present to you my resignation from the government, wishing you success, and for Lebanon to be spared from the conspiracies being plotted against it, of which, unfortunately, you were one of the victims”.
A decree is expected to be issued shortly by Baabda Palace, accepting the resignation of Minister Kordahi.
Congratulation Cable:
President Aoun received an independence congratulatory message from Greek President, Katerina Sakeliropoulou, in which she said:
“I take this opportunity to assure you that Greece stands united with the friendly people of Lebanon in the face of the difficult times they are going through”. — Presidency Press Office
