Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad Makary, on Friday said that he was positively surprised with “the response of many Arab and foreign ambassadors after witnessing our relentless, constructive efforts to protect freedoms, to modernize the media law and to regulate everything related to social media.”
In an interview with Annahar Australia newspaper, Caretaker Minister Makary pointed out, “we have ministers in Lebanon who are working diligently and actively and as such they choose constructive work,” adding that the Ministry is working to establish a media and film production city.
In response to a question, Makary said: “We managed to protect the archives of Télé-Liban by preserving them digitally thanks to a protocol with the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
“We are preparing a modern media draft law, which will be published on the ministry’s website in order to allow media institutions and media professionals to express their opinion on this subject, in coordination with UNESCO.”
Makary added that “the ministry has signed a protocol with the Union of Arab Producers aimed at producing films in Lebanon using Lebanese geography by establishing a media and film production city, especially that the Ministry of Information owns large areas of land, including a plot of land in the Bekaa with an area of 500,000 square meters”.
On the Lebanese community in Australia, Minister Makary said: “We will soon sign an agreement with the Australian government which will allow regular broadcast of programs related to the Lebanese expatriates through Télé-Liban and in coordination with Australian Television (“SBS”), and we are also working with several countries in Latin America to broadcast the programs there via satellite”.
“We look forward to the cooperation and coordination of all media outlets in Australia with the Ministry of Information regarding the strengthening of communication between the Lebanese resident and the expatriate.”
The Minister added, “We will seek to publish more community-related news on the ministry’s website and the National News Agency”.
