Minister of Information, Attorney Dr. Paul Morcos, on Monday received at his ministry office, UNESCO Program Director George Awad and a media delegation, to discuss launching a joint program to combat hate speech and incitement.
Minister Morcos also informed the delegation that a dossier on attacks against journalists is being prepared and will be sent to UNESCO in Paris.
Minister Morcos also contacted by phone the Permanent Delegate of the Lebanese Mission to UNESCO, Ambassador Hind Darwish, who briefed him on the efforts being made to protect journalists and the request he is preparing on this matter for UNESCO.
Morcos was also informed by Ambassador Darwish that an extraordinary meeting of the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, to discuss the classification of 39 sites in Lebanon as heritage sites to be added to the 34 sites previously classified, bringing the total to 73 sites.
Minister Morcos also said: “Ambassador Darwish will raise the issue of attacks on journalists with UNESCO’s Committee for the Safety of Journalists and Freedom of Expression, in light of the dossier she is preparing and the information we will provide her with.”
