Morcos: Finance Minister to Visit Washington as Aid Declines, Health Sector Toll Mounts

Information Minister, Dr. Paul Morcos, on Thursday said that the finance minister will travel to Washington to seek assistance, noting a decline in international aid to Lebanon compared to 2024, alongside falling state revenues.

 

Morcos stressed the state’s commitment to paying salaries, dismissing reports to the contrary as inaccurate.

 

Morcos added that the health minister reported 95 direct attacks on medical personnel, with 53 fatalities in the sector, while the justice minister highlighted the urgent needs of frontline villages and the need to protect civilians.

 

Minister Morcos was speaking in the wake of today’s Cabinet session which was held at the Grand Serail under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, to discuss agenda items, which focused mainly on following up on the current situation, particularly those related to Israeli attacks and the displacement issue.

 

Among the items approved by the Cabinet were: –approval of a $200 million loan agreement from the World Bank to finance a project aimed at strengthening social safety nets.

 

-Granting a monthly financial allowance to active-duty and retired military personnel; this is an ongoing administrative measure in accordance with the law.

 

Appointments were also made, including the appointment of a Chairman and Director General of the General Authority for Sports, Scouting, and Youth Facilities, in addition to full-time and part-time members of its board of directors.

 

The appointments were as follows: Naji Hammoud as Chairman and Director General, and members: Zakaria Sharara, Dina Nasr, Samer Al-Aoud, Jack Haddad, Vatche Najarian, and Ralph Prince.
