Morcos to ABC News: For supporting Lebanese President’s initiative to stop the war, mobilize humanitarian aid

In a special interview with ABC News, Information Minister, Attorney Dr. Paul Morcos, affirmed that “what is happening in southern Lebanon constitutes a serious escalation with very worrying humanitarian dimensions,” stressing that “Israeli attacks are not limited to pressuring residents to flee, but extend to systematically destroying their homes, denoting a systematic policy of mass displacement.”

In line with the Prime Minister’s statement following the cabinet meeting, Morcos indicated that “the Israeli Defense Minister’s statements translate into acts of invasion and occupation,” considering what is actually happening to be a form of ‘cleansing’ of southern Lebanon.

He added, “Israeli actions have become clear in this regard, as they seek to achieve their security objectives even if the price is the martyrdom of Lebanese civilians, including journalists.”

At the political level, Minister Morcos stated that President of the Lebanese Republic, General Joseph Aoun, had put forward an initiative that was “advanced, bold and clear, based on launching negotiations under the supervision of the international community.” However, this initiative was met by more attacks from the Israeli side.

Morcos cautioned that the situation is heading towards further deterioration, especially on the humanitarian level, where conditions have become worse than ever before. He reiterated what the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees had documented, listing shocking figures and statistics from UNICEF and other international organizations.

Regarding diplomatic efforts, the Minister of Information explained that “the Lebanese President is conducting intensive consultations with friendly countries in order to stop the war.”

“Lebanese efforts are focused at the current stage on the diplomatic track to reach a solution that stops the escalation, limits the accelerating humanitarian deterioration, and enhances shelter, food, and medical aid,” Morcos concluded.
