Morcos stresses ceasefire priority, rejects attacks on journalists

Information Minister, Paul Morcos, on Wednesday stressed the need for a ceasefire and an end to Israeli attacks, saying President Joseph Aoun considers this the essential gateway to achieving Lebanon’s sovereign demands through negotiations.

Speaking to Télé Liban, Morcos said security meetings scheduled for the end of the month involving Lebanese officers are part of technical coordination with the United States aimed at securing Israeli withdrawal, prisoner releases, the return of displaced residents and reconstruction.

He noted full coordination between President Aoun, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Speaker Nabih Berri on the negotiation track.

Morcos also condemned attacks on journalists, medical teams and civilians as violations of international humanitarian law, revealing that Lebanon has coordinated with UNESCO, the UN Human Rights Council and international bodies to document violations and pursue accountability.

He added that a UN human rights delegation is expected to visit Lebanon to support fact-finding efforts.

Morcos also called for combating hate speech and misinformation, stressing the importance of balanced media discourse and responsible use of social media.
